A few years ago, when g-mail was the New! Big! Thing! I started an account. For my address, I used my first and middle names: carriejoyce. Ok, now you know my g-mail address-- but don't send me anything because I never check that account! Well, almost never. I got curious as to whether or not I had any e-mails waiting for me in g-mail a couple of months ago and I went over to check it out.
I had about 90 e-mails, most of which were spam. Once I got rid of that stuff, I looked at what was left. After opening a few of them, I realized that they were all addressed to a woman in California named Carrie Joyce. One was from her brother or father (or some male relative with the same last name) who happens to be some big-wig on the Chicago Board Options Exchange where, apparently, they trade options...? He was forwarding them an article about some list he made or something.
THEN there were a bunch of e-mails from some dude who was doing the flowers for this woman's wedding on Halloween last year. It was here that I started getting a little interested. You see, attached to these e-mails were spreadsheets with the estimate for their flowers. I was intrigued because the flowers for the wedding, while not that expensive, were going to cost about half of the amount that we spent on our entire wedding: close to $2000. (Joel and I got married on the CHEAP, you guys, but it was still nice! That's why I can't watch those shows where people are spending $100,000 on weddings. I'd so much rather take that money and buy a fancy bag or 50. But I digress.) I began to wonder who this woman was? She had most of my name and I knew nothing about her!
Did you know that I secretly want to be a detective? That's why I like to watch Murder, She Wrote. It makes me feel smart when I can figure out the entire plot of the show in the first 5 minutes. So, when I was looking at these e-mails, I decided to put my skills as a google-stalker to work. I gathered from the flower guy's e-mail that he worked at the Westgate Hotel and that he had a "619" area code, which is in San Diego. How do I know that? Well, I grew up there! That is my hood, yo!
I looked up the hotel on the interweb and I found it! Taking clues from the e-mail so helpfully provided by the flower guy, I even found pictures of the places the wedding and reception were taking place. This is where the wedding happened:
Fancy! Party of 500!
And this is where the reception was:
Hopefully it was more "wedding" and less "boring insurance seminar" on the big day.
From the looks of it, though, my namesake and her fiance fell on some hard times, because they had to slash the flower budget by more than half! No more bridesmaid's or groomsmen's flowers! No more pumpkin centerpieces! No more black candelabras or fall garlands for the ceremony site! What happened? Well, whatever it was, I do know that there were very lovely invitations. How? Well, someone else sent her an e-mail telling her so!
After that there weren't any messages for a couple of months. Around Christmas, someone named Marcia sent Carrie Joyce some holiday wishes accompanied by pictures of children on Santa's lap and an old picture with "Grandpa." I think it's a bit strange that someone close enough to this chick to send her family pictures would not have a correct e-mail. I think she's still got it wrong, too, because she just sent a notice about a virus on facebook last week. Thanks for thinking of the safety of my (or, I guess, her) computer, Marcia!
I had pretty much forgotten about it all until today, when I was checking my g-mail because I used it in our craigslist posting for our condo because I can't f-ing check my hotmail from home (why? NO ONE KNOWS), and I had an e-mail from an interior design/modern furniture studio in San Diego, setting up an appointment to do design for their apartment. From this I glean to pieces of information: they got married AND their money problems seem to be over because they can afford to hire an interior designer San Diego's "trendy" Little Italy district who is excited about catching up on their next "design phase."
Is this not kind of like voyeurism? I've searched for Carrie Joyce in California, but there are too many to narrow it down! I could try to call the phone numbers that are listed in a few of the e-mails, but I'm not crazy! See, there's a line in stalking people for whom you mistakenly receive e-mails, and I do not want to cross it!
So, did you respond to any of these people and tell them you're not the right Carrie Joyce? Wait... I think I already know the answer to that... you're having way too much fun. At least your alter ego is a rich, fancy pants type person!

You're right! I don't want them to stop! I might send that Marcia lady one, though, because I already have a friend to send me all of the "I'm glad you're my girlfriend" and "You know you were a child of the '80s when..." e-mails.

Planning to build your own house is really a daunting task because there are several issues to be considered before purchasing any kind of furniture or household items. You have to keep in mind that the products purchased match the color of the house.

Even when you realize that you can’t do everything you used to, it is hard to give up the freedom to do whatever you want.
