that I haven't posted anything since April. No? Just me? But I have excuses:
- Our computer broke and so the only time I really have a computer is at work, and you know how much I hate to write blog posts at work.
- Speaking of work: it's busy. I'm writing pretty much all of th appeals we're doing, which means I'm writing two to three 20 page memos a month. After all that writing, sometimes my brain hurts and tries to escape from my head, so I have to stare at the wall until I can form a sentence. I've also been doing more hearings, which... let's just say they aren't my favorite.
- We have a house and a yard and a garden that I have to neglect. That's a lot of neglect, you guys! It takes me all day sometimes! There is so much laying around to do at home that I almost can't even get it all done by myself. And god knows my husband isn't going to help me with it! What with his, "Hey, Carrie, let's go pull weeds!" and "Carrie, it's a beautiful day outside! Let's go on a walk!" It's insufferable, really.
- I am doing absolutely nothing and, thus, I have a distinct lack of subject matter about which I can blog. I've also found that other people's blogs are much more interesting than mine, so I've been spending my time looking at those instead of doing it myself.
So here's another list of things of note that have happened in the last couple of months:
- I turned 34. That's four more than 30, you guys. It's gross. However, for my birthday, my husband got me a TV for the wall in our kitchen AND I got a beautiful new bag that looks like this:
If you haven't heard the story about this purse, I will tell it to you right now. On my birthday, I went to Nordstrom Rack, where I saw this bag, but I did not buy it. I then went home to get Joel so we could go to lunch, and I kept thinking about it. By the time we were done with lunch and with getting the car washed, I had decided that I should just go get it. Before we went back to the Rack, we had to make a quick (or so I thought) stop at home so we could get a Home Depot coupon. Little did I know that we would spend the next 20 minutes measuring for blinds because we absolutely had to order them that very minute. Long story short, when we got back up to the Rack, the bag was gone. Then we spent two hours at Home Depot (because I know how to do my birthdays right), during which time I whined so much that Joel was like, "FINE. You can order the bag online when we get home. Now will you SHUT UP for the love of GOD!" I think the thing that pushed him over the edge was when I told him that, from then on, my birthday wouldn't be my birthday, but would be the day I lost my beautiful handbag because he made me measure for blinds. Every woman I've told that story to has said, "No! You never leave anything at the Rack. If you want it, you have to get it or it will be gone if you change your mind." I didn't need them to tell me that, though, because to this day, I'm haunted by a pair of cute Franco Sarto ankle-strap wedge sandals that I didn't buy and when I went back to get them they were gone and I cried. That was four years ago and I still kick myself because they were so cute, you guys.
- I saw Joel McHale do stand-up. He's funny on The Soup, but I was a little worried that he wouldn't be so funny when he's not talking about celebrities and Kim Kardashian's ass. I needn't have worried. He was hilarious!
- We had a full-on flood in our back yard. It seems that the weather here was going through an identity crisis in June. For some reason, it was thinking that it would be nice to change things up a bit and rain for the ENTIRE MONTH. Kudos to anyone who can live in the Northwest because, by the third straight week of rain and cloudiness, I was dressed all in black, wearing too much eyeliner, and listening to The Cure while I talked about how no one understands me.
Anyway, on this Saturday a thunderstorm dumped a shit-ton of water on Salt Lake in a really short amount of time. Joel and I were driving home from the mall and we were amazed at how much water was on the streets. It looked like rapids were forming in the gutter! Manhole covers were being blown off because of the geysers shooting up. We turned onto our street and there were huge pools of water everywhere. Then, we pulled into our driveway and noticed that there was a river running from the street, right under our fence, and into our garage. It looked something like this:
And this was after it had calmed down a bit. Next we noticed that, not only did we have a river in our driveway, we had a lake in our back yard:
It's hard to tell how high the water was, but it pretty much covered the entire yard (and we have a fair-sized yard) with about 2-3 inches of water. It was about this time that I realized that if it was covering the yard like this, it had probably gotten into the garage:
And it had! Nothing was really hurt except for some stuff that was supposed to go to a thrift store and our UNO cards and various board games. We were so lucky! We don't have any basement to speak of, so no water got into the house. Everything was pretty soggy, but there was not really any damage. So, that's good, right?
There! You're caught up! This ended up being a really long post, which I should have dragged out into numerous different posts, so I would have many days worth of entries. I totally didn't do that, though, because I want to make this a new beginning, wherein I write interesting blog entries multiple times a week. Because I love you. And also, I didn't think about doing it until I was already almost done and I didn't want to do all that exhausting cutting and pasting.
Glad you're back!
